The differences between WYSIWYG and Text Editor
WYSIWYG
WYSIWYG means ‘what you see is what you get’ This describes a system in which content ‘Text and Graphics’ is placed on a screen during editing appears in a form close to an a appearance that is displayed onscreen.
It is easier to use WYSIWYG for a beginner because it allow’s you to do the tasks more quickly. Also when you have made the website you can view it in the web browser,
The bad things about using WYSIWYG is when your working with visual editor it’s gives you less of an idea how to learn HTML code. The worst thing is that editors can sometimes add strange tags which can cause your site to render funny in older browsers.

Text Editors
Text editor is a program that allows you to edit text in your own way.
In text editor you can use HTML code without any visual guide. HTML can be hard but in the end you do benefit from a better understanding of HTML. Most people look to write HTML from scratch but not because it’s faster but because it often shows that the developer has the ability to go beyond tools to create their pages.
If your writing HTML from scratch, then you can move to editor but it is very hard to move from WYSIWYG editor to coding.

ISP (Internet Service Provider)
ISP which stands for 'internet service providers' is a company that provides internet services like shown below. It allows you to connect to the internet through a modem by using a username and password. You'll use the services for either personal or bussiness information to use this you'll have to pay a monthly fee with a lot of these like virgin, 02, sky, talktalk and bt.
This is showing the InternetServiceProviders that they are now. I’m going to find 5 ISP’s and find out their costing and see if there is any offers that they have when you join them. Also try and find what speed they have.

IP address's
IP address's are made of numbers ranging from 0 to 255 and separated by four dots for example a common IP address for your router is :
192.168.1.1 every device on the internet has it's own globally unique IP address.
A domain name is not the same as an IP address, Every website has an IP address, so for example say if you typed Googles IP address (173.194.67.147) in the URL then it would bring Google up.
Remembering an IP address would be hard. To make internet address's human friendly, domain names were introduced. To get to google you can type www.google.com

Top level domain names
A top level domain name is made up of about six parts: Top level domain (TLD) and the level domain is (SLD).
The TDLs are administrated by IANA, and they are pre-determinted.

The company that is responsible for domain names is ICANN. ICANN stands for 'Internet Corporation For Assigned Names And Number'. There is a load of domains names you can choose from which are shown below. This company has just released a 100 more domain names and hoping to release more in the future. When ICANN said they were going to make more domain names it received 1,930 applications for 1,410 unique domains from about 1,000 different entities. Here are some of the new domain names have come up there is one called .bike, .clothing, .compamy, .computer etc.
The top domain names are divided into three categories, genric TLD (gTLD), country code TLD (ccTLD) and infrastructure TLD. The top level domains are the most frequently used on the web.

Registering a domain name
This is my own website that I’m working on which is called ‘www.elliottstrickland.com’ I am putting all of my research that I have done for unit 1 on there. First you had to buy a domain name and then buy it, it can sometimes to be hard to get a name you want because loads of people use the website. I just picked my name 'elliottstrickland' which cost £7.00.
This is the website that I used to find a domain name for my new website.
There is a search box on this website 'http://www.123-reg.co.uk/', where you can search any name you want to create a website. Some of the names might not be available or might be out of your price range.
When you search a name it brings up what's available and what isn't and what the prices are. You can also choose weather to have either, com, org, co.uk, net and so on.
This is showing me linking my domain onto weebly. Then showing that my weebly website has been published.
This is a screenshot of my website with all of my research placed onto it.
URL
URL stands for (Uniform Resource Locator) is know also as a web address when used with a HTTP. Most people know just either type www.'example.com' or 'example.com' or even 'example' and it would bring the page up that you want. This only happens with popular sites like, 'Google' 'Youtube' 'Facebook' etc. If you did this with a website that isn't well know then it probaly wouldn't bring the page up. The way you should really write a URL out though is 'http//www.example.com/example/example'.
(protocol identifier) this shows what the protocol to use and (resource name) this is the IP address or the domain name. The protocol identifier and the resource name are separated by a colon and two forward slashes.
HTTP stand's for 'Hypertext transfer protocol' people use HTTP worldwide what HTTP does is it shows how messages are formatted. When your searching for sites using URL you should always use 'http://' and then the rest of the URL just because it'll will always take you to the page where you want to go.

There are three main types of hosting which are (shared hosting, (dedicated hosting) and (Virtual Private Server hosting)
Shared hosting:
Shared hosting is where a number of web sites are using the same server, the advantage of this is that it's cheaper as there is a number of users using the same server however if their is to many visitor's on the website then it will slow the server down which can affect the websites.

Dedicated hosting:
Dedicated hosting is a dedicated server machine that is dedicated to the traffic to your Web site. Only very busy sites need dedicated hosting. Most companies purchase their own servers and place them on a site that provides fast access to the Internet.

Virtual private server hosting:
Virtual Web servers provide low cost web hosting services. Instead of using a separate computer for each server, loads of virtual servers can be used on the same computer. Most of time the speed is not affected and each website behaves as if it is being served by a dedicated server. However, if too many virtual servers are used on the same computer the web pages will be delivered more slowly.

Code academy
This an example shown below of code academy. Code academy is a website where you can get free coding classing in six different programming languages like Javascript, Ruby, Python, PHP, jQuery, HTML and CSS. Each student has their own user profile, code academy offers feedback and badges for completing exercises. It also keeps a track of your score and if you have had enough of using Code academy and logged out and if you wanted to go back on to then it will resume from where you last left off.
W3schools
W3schools is a website for learning coding, like code academy there are six languages which are Javascript, Ruby, Python, PHP, jQuery, HTML and CSS. It has tutorials on how to create codes, for example if you want to learn something on HTML then you would go on to w3schools then into learn HTML and it should have everything on there to help you, you can also try it yourself like shown in the image below.
HTML
HTML is a language for describing web pages, HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. A markup language is a set of markup tags that describes document content's. HTML documents contain HTML tags and plain text which are also called web pages.
HTML is a format used as tags to create a website, HTML tags are keywords (tag names) surrounded by angle brackets for example (<HTML>). The first tag is to start the tag and the second one is to close the tag. The first and second tags are also called opening tags and closing tags.
The paragraph tag <p> is used for paragraph's.
Example: <p> this is a paragraph </p>
<h1> to <h6> is used for heading on a website, <h1> headings should be the most important one to use, then followed by <h2> then <h3> which isn't that important and so on up to <h6>.
Example: <h1> this is a heading </h1>

CSS
'CSS' stand's for cascading style sheets and is a 'style sheet language' it is most often used for 'web pages' and 'interfaces' written in HTML and XHTML.
In css you can use, fonts, colours, margins, lines, height, width, background images and etc. You can also make a load of documents
just from using one single sheet.
To use colours in css is simple, theres two ways of using colours in css. You can either just type (colour: red;)
which is shown in the image below. Or if you want to pick your own colour like say if you wanted to have a light red
or dark red then you can use the colour picker which is shown in the image below aswell.
Background Property's
CSS background properties are used to define the background effects of an element.
These are some css properties you can use for background effects:
Here's some examples of background property's shown in the images below.

CSS font properties.
These are some example of font properties you can use for text effects:
- font-family
- font-style
- font-weight
- font-size
You can apply these fonts to text, font-family is for the font that you want. If you wanted a font like Times New Roman then you would just type (font-family: "Times New Roman";) and then it will change the font to Times New Roman for you.
Here's some examples shown in the images below.

Id And Class
Id tag is normally used either once or never in the style sheet. It targets one unique element, so say if you creating a navigation menu for a website then you would use the 'id' class because it's only one element but say you were creating a few images then you would use a class and not the 'id class as it's more than one element.
The id class is written out like this "#name". This is an example of how the id class is written out:

A class on the other hand is used throughout the style sheet as it targets most of the html tags like the, header tag (h1), paragraph tag (p), image tag (img), and etc. A class is written out like this '.name'. This is an example of how a class works:
