Conclusion
I conducted 2 types of Primary Research which was qualitative and quantitative to obtain as much information about video gamer's and the website GAME.
I started with quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire to get an initial general outlook on the information where gamer’s buy games, what game platforms they use and how often they buy games. Followed by specific questions on the GAME website to find out if gamers actually visit the GAME website and what they use it for mainly. 27 people responded to my questionnaire.
100% play video games, which is a good starting point of my research as this means I get a good outlook on gamer’s facts and if they use the GAME website and why.
From my results I learnt that only 23% purchase their games from the GAME website. The majority buy from Amazon. Interestingly, 36% buy their games from the actual GAME highstreet store. Which means that the majority of people intend to use the shop GAME instead of the website. However, the supermarkets, which got 40% of the votes, are most popular choice for buying games.
50% of the respondents actually visit the GAME website and they all rate the website positive. It was important to find out why people acually visit the GAME website. From the feedback I received I found that the majority of people visit the site to find out about the latest games that have been released. 33% said that they use the website to read reviews of game’s and 33% said they go on to the website to buy new games.
If I was a researcher for the GAME company they could use this information to develop their website further and focus on their strengths and improve their weaknesses.

Focus Group
GAME website Focus Group Outcomes
I organized a focus group as part of my primary research to obtain qualitative information. I approached five people but could only get three to do it, which made it quite difficult and limited with answers. I chose this type of qualitative research to ask people opinions about the website GAME.
At first I asked the group members ‘does this website provide you with the information your are looking for?’
All the members gave positive feedback and are quite similar answers saying everything is easy to find and the information on the website is in very good detail.
I asked the members ‘what do you think of the quality of the information?’
Most of the members’ answers were similar with two of the participants saying the quality of the information is very good. Also with the banner ad promoting new games and consoles is very good and the other participant said that the reviews on the website homepage is a good idea to have.
The question for this was ‘is this website easy to navigate when looking for specific information? (Is the site easy to follow? for example if you wanted to look at something on this site would the links take you to it or is it too hard to follow?)
There were two participants that provided very positive feedback and one of them had negative feedback. The positive feedback included that the website is very easy to follow and the links never seem to break when your using the website. They also found the website very easy to use and easy to find things. The negative feedback is found that when searching for something very specific that it’s very hard to find it, which he found very annoying.
The question is ‘does the site work good? For example does the links work and clicking on images work?
All of the answers are similar and all have positive feedback. All three are very similar with one saying the links seem to work, when clicking on a link it seems to take about four to five seconds to load. One of the other answers is saying when you click on one of the images in the banner ad then it will take you straight to that image.
I asked ‘when comparing this website with other websites such as Amazon, how do you feel about the loading speed of web pages?’
There are two answers that are very similar with both saying that all of the other websites like Amazon and Argos have the same loading speed as GAME. One of the other answers is saying that they haven’t noticed about the speed and they are saying that they only ever seem to use GAME.
I asked the members ‘what do you think of the layout of the website? (Images and text)’
Two of the participants were positive but one of them kind of isn’t. One of the positive answers is saying that the website is layer out well and also saying the website isn’t too busy and that it is very easy to navigate. The other positive answer say’s that the website is very welcoming. The last answer say’s that the website can be easy to use but can also be hard to work out where everything is.
The question is ‘what do you think is best about the website?’
All of the answers are positive with one saying that the best thing about the website is when they are promoting new games. Another answer is saying that the website looks fun and interesting. The last one is saying when you have a game in mind then GAME will definitely have it.
I asked ‘what do you dislike about the website?’
One person said that the website has too much going on and that it is always hard to know where to go next. Someone else said that they should have demo’s for PC’s on the website so that you can test the games out before you buy them. The last person actually left good feedback saying that they don’t dislike anything about the website and that they find the website very interesting.
The question for this was ‘would you visit this site again? If not why?’
Everyone has said the same thing on question nine with all of them saying yes to that they will visit the GAME website again.
Summary
I did a focus group so I could find out what people thoughts were of the GAME website.
It was quite hard to get people to participate in this task as I only got three to do it instead of the five I intended to participate. Because I only had three members to participate, the results of my research are limited. If more people would have participated (approximately 6 or 8) I would have been able to get a wider range of answers and therefore a better general overview on what people think of the website.
Also, I was planning on asking the members the questions and record the members’ answers, but they didn’t want to be recorded. I would have liked to record their answers as it would have been easier to listen back to it in my own time instead of writing them down whilst they answered the questions.
Overall, the website is successful in welcoming their customer’s to visit their website and promoting their games and consoles to them. They promote their games and consoles by either using banner ad’s or showing good deals all over the website to try and catch the customer’s eye.
The website work’s really well too as it is very easy to use the website and easy to navigate when searching for something. GAME have always seem to use quality images to promote their games, they promote their games buy either changing their background image when there normally is a new game that has come out or they use the banner ad’s. They use the background image and banner ad’s to try and catch the customer’s eye soon as they visit the page.
The text that ‘Game’ use is also quality, they use the text to promote new deals for games and consoles like for example, ‘buy a console and get 2 games free’. They also use it for new games that have come out or coming out soon, which is to make you want to click on it and buy.
Not successful
The GAME website is not so successful in being organized as there is sometimes too much going on with the website. Not being organized can then make it hard for the customer to find things and will probably loose track when searching for something as the website is overloading with images and text.
